Grey's Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is an American primetime medical drama. It debuted on ABC as a mid-season replacement for Boston Legal on March 27, 2005, immediately following Desperate Housewives. The title of the show is inspired by the classic medical textbook Gray's Anatomy. The series revolves around Dr. Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, who began the show as a surgical intern at Seattle Grace Hospital in Seattle, Washington.

Name

Meredith Grey, a surgical resident, is the title character of the series Grey's Anatomy; her name is a reference to Henry Gray, the original author of the textbook Gray's Anatomy. Printed under the current title, "Henry Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body", as the 40th British edition in September 2008, the textbook on human anatomy has become a classic in medical schools, since first being published in 1858.

Locations

Fisher Plaza, which houses Seattle's ABC affiliate KOMO-TV, is used for some exterior shots of Seattle Grace Hospital, such as air ambulances landing on the KOMO-TV news helicopter helipad.

Rise to prominence

In 2005, ABC gave the show a vote of confidence by announcing that Grey’s Anatomy would receive the coveted post-Super Bowl time slot which aired on February 5, 2006.[2] The special episode pulled in a record 38.1 million viewers.

Music

In addition to use within the series, certain songs have been become key to promotion of Grey’s Anatomy. Prior to the series debut, The Postal Service's song "Such Great Heights" was used as part of series previews aired on ABC.
Music plays a key role in the creation of Grey’s Anatomy. Each episode of the show is uniquely named after a song. The episode titles usually have something to do with the theme or moral of the episode's storyline and this moral is reproduced by the voice-overs heard at the beginning and end of each episode. Artists featured on Grey’s Anatomy include Jont, Meiko, Gomez, Adele, Beck, Tegan and Sara, The Boy Least Likely To, Nouvelle Vague (band), Kate Havnevik, Róisín Murphy, Gemma Hayes, Snow Patrol, Kanye West, Interpol, Maria Taylor, Mat Kearney, Three Days Grace, Medeski Martin & Wood, Ingrid Michaelson, Joshua Radin, Jem, Brandi Carlile, Anya Marina, Erin McCarley, Duffy, Corinne Bailey Rae, Chris Garneau, Devics, KT Tunstall, Sia, Anna Nalick, Taylor Swift, Santigold, Coldplay, and Missy Higgins.

Private Practice

On February 21, 2007, The Wall Street Journal reported that ABC was pursuing a spin-off of Grey’s Anatomy featuring the character Addison Montgomery. On May 3, 2007, a two-hour episode of Grey’s Anatomy doubled as a backdoor pilot for the proposed spinoff. ABC officially picked up Private Practice for its fall 2007 lineup on May 11. The trio of programs had second season premieres on October 1, 2008.

Grey's Anatomy

There wasn't a new episode of Grey's Anatomy last week so its fans had a couple of weeks to wait until the storylines get moving forward yet again (yes, right after they picked up pace during the last few episodes). To fill in that gap, Entertainment Weekly, courtesy of Michael Ausiello, reports that a lot will happen on Seattle Grace, things that will remind old Grey's fans of the good old times and resolve this similarly old blasted Denny storyline once and for all. MTP Kit online overnight

Getting it out of the way, EW says that Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) will, finally, get the blinding flash of the obvious. Denny (guest star Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was dropping hints like crazy, and we will get our first clues as to what Izzie is inflicted with exactly, other than perpetual and at times annoying perkiness.

As for those Grey's fans who were reminiscing of the good old days courtesy of the apartment scene on the eve of McMommy's arrival, Thursday's episode will supposedly feature “one of the funniest, all-female group hugs yet” plus a not-so-pleasant (but still hilarious) cafeteria scene and some girl-on-girl action. There were reports before that Arizona Robbins (guest star Jessica Capshaw) will potentially be a new love interest for Callie (Sara Ramirez). Capshaw is on Seattle Grace for just three episodes, but the girl was on The L Word so she must have some experience on the field.

Meanwhile, some of my fears are starting to come true, if Ausiello is to believed. There will be “lots of cheesy, slow-mo, piano-scored interludes” between Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd), complicated by the fact that a woman from Owen's past will come a-knocking.

Finally, some news that won't sink well with the already edgy George (T.R. Knight) fans. George will reportedly be on screen for a grand total of – 10 seconds.

Greys Anatomy Spoilers

With all the attention paid to whether or not Izzie will pass away tomorrow night, another major question has been more or less overlooked: Does this week's fifth season finale mark the final episode for another beloved character, Dr. George O'Malley?
Here's what TV Guide has to say in its spoiler

Q: What can you spill about the two-hour Grey's Anatomy season finale? Are we definitely saying goodbye to George and T.R. Knight?
A: Yes, there are rumors swirling that the finale not only paves the way for George's departure from Seattle Grace, but perhaps also his exit from this plane of existence as well.
I presented said scuttlebutt to Chyler Leigh (who plays Lexie), and asked if she feels she's shared the Grey's with Knight a final time. "Not that I know of," she said. "I'm not even sure T.R. knows [what the future holds]. I don't think anybody knows what's going to happen."
